Artisans in Malawi have a centuries-old tradition of craftsmanship, using sustainable resources from the environment and the knowledge of locals over generations. What they lack is access to modern design, a platform to sell their products and the financial means to establish themselves as a sustainable business. This is where Maria and her team, our local partner, come in. Her award-winning social enterprise helps low-income artisans build their businesses while preserving a centuries-old cultural heritage. The art of rattan weaving is passed down from generation to generation and it takes up to 8 days to complete a Malawi chair.
